"Volunteer Caregivers uses a dedicated group of volunteers plus service teams from local schools, companies, and service groups to provide a variety of free services to low income seniors. Our goal is to help these seniors remain safely and comfortably in their homes and maintain their independence and dignity. To qualify for these services, you must be 55 or older and live within the Greater Albany Public School district. We also provide our transportation service to medical appointments for those who live in Lebanon and parts of east Linn County. We currently provide the following services:
Transportation -- Using volunteers who drive their own cars or one of our two sedans, we provide transportation for those who need a ride to an essential service. Most rides are for medical appointments. We also have a wheelchair accessible van for those who are not able to get into or out of a regular car. Please call at least 2 to 3 business days before your appointment so that we will have enough time to find a volunteer driver to help you.
Handyman Chores -- We make minor home repairs. We also install grab bars and construct wheelchair ramps. We will ask you to pay for the materials if you can afford it.
Yard Work -- We mow lawns, prune shrubbery, rake leaves in the fall, and clean gutters. You must have a working lawn mower for our use and local garbage service to haul away the yard debris.
Grocery and Shopping Assistance -- We take you shopping or do the shopping for you.
Short Term Housekeeping -- We provide housekeeping services when needed for short periods of time.
Friendly Visiting and Reassurance Calling -- Our volunteers visit or call home-bound seniors to provide a contact with the outside world.
Referrals -- We provide information about other agencies and organizations for services that we do not provide."
