"ADHD/ADD require a careful diagnostic evaluation that includes psychological testing. It is one of the most common childhood disorders and can last into adolescence and adulthood. Left untreated, ADHD/ADD can cause a lot of problems, including low self esteem, difficult or failed relationships, dropping out of school, higher frequency of car accidents and substance abuse. In some cases, environmental restructuring and behavioral therapy alone can be effective in helping you manage ADHD/ADD.Environmental restructuring is different for each person and could include taking harder classes in the morning, using organizational tools like a planner, having optimal seating in a classroom, and more.Behavioral psychotherapy is more often successful when used with effective medication. Medications aren"t a cure, but have been shown through evidence-based studies to dramatically improve school work so that you can function as well as your classmates. We also see a decrease in hyperactivity and impulsivity, and improved peer and family relations."
