To understand what Neurofeedback can do, it helps to have a basic idea of what Neuroplasticity is.
Neuroplasticity, is quite simply, is the brain"s natural ability to "rewire" itself by learning and establishing new patterns, the brain forms and reforms its networks.
The purpose of Neurofeedback is to regulate brain function. A regulated brain experiences less stress and anxiety, as well as more balanced sleep cycles.
Neurofeedback has been shown to improve focus, concentration and peak performance. In addition, Neurofeedback is incredibly useful in organic brain conditions as well as physical injuries to the brain; like concussions and strokes.
Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function; by which the brain learns to operate in a more efficient, coherent manner. Training the brain in self-regulation improves brain function and allows the Central Nervous System to perform in the way it is intended.
By observing the brain in action from moment to moment via EEG (Electroencephalogram), we are able to show that information back to the person using a computer interface. We use a fabulous system from BrainPaint.
This feedback is given in the form of music and beautiful, animated art that is created by their own brainwaves. The feedback rewards the brain along the way as it changes its own activity to more appropriate patterns this is what begins the "rewiring" process."
