"Just as our brains are connected to our bodies, our mental well-being is directly connected to our overall physical health. Without support and care, stress and other mental health concerns, such as anxiety or depression, can be harmful to our long-term health and can put us at increased risk for chronic disease. There are many factors that can contribute to our overall mental health. These might include daily stressors related to work, school, finances or relationships. Additionally, a personal or family history of mental health issues or past trauma may increase the risk for conditions, such as anxiety or depression.Talking to your primary care provider can be an important first step in improving mental health and wellness. Many people don"t realize that it is important to bring up mental health, social or emotional concerns at a primary care office visit, but it is! In order to develop a care plan that is right for you, we may ask questions or use evidence-based screening tools to get a sense of how you are feeling, what sort of support strategies you have tried in the past, and what your personal goals might be. We are here to support you where you are at and connect you to tools and resources that work for you."
