SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY

Why this resource is helpful:

Quoted From: https://www.chiropractichealingcenter.org/about-spinal-decompression-therapy/

"Spinal decompression is used to treat pain caused by degenerative spinal conditions, bulging/herniated/"slipped" discs, compressed/"pinched" nerves, spinal narrowing (stenosis) and other causes of pain in the spine, legs or arms. Due to the gentle and controlled nature of the treatment, post-surgical spinal pain can also be treated. During a treatment on this table, the patient lies face down while the treating physician contacts one vertebra at a time. The doctor then utilizes the mobile sections of the table to create a traction or distraction force on the vertebra. This opens the spaces around the spinal cord and nerves, reduces pressure in the discs, improves spinal mobility, and increases blood flow to the area. This treatment can be applied to the mid back (thoracic spine), and low back (lumbar spine). Patients are treated using the 50% rule: 50% relief of symptoms is expected within 30 days before referral for diagnostic testing or to another practitioner (in the absence of significant or progressive neurological symptoms). When the patient achieves 50% relief, the treatment frequency is reduced.Tolerance testing is performed prior to the application of distraction manipulation to be sure it causes no pain to the patient. This technique is designed to help patients with low back pain, leg pain and foot pain."
