"Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (known as PMHNPs in Oregon) are trained to assess, diagnose and treat individuals with psychiatric disorders using a full range of clinical skills, including prescribing medications and performing psychotherapy. PMHNPs have Master's or Doctoral degrees in Nursing, and are independent healthcare providers in the State of Oregon. Slightly more than half of U.S. states and territories now allow PMHNPs to practice independently. PMHNPs collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health professionals in a wide variety of clinical environments, including hospitals, private practices, and community health centers, and fulfill an important role in the healthcare system by expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care."
