"During an aromatherapy massage, essential oil molecules, or terpenes, are inhaled and absorbed into the body and act on the receptors in the brain in a number of ways. This typically inspires more uplifted or calm feelings depending on the oil that is used. Essential oils are the highly concentrated, potent essence of a plant and are created from natural compounds found inside various parts of plants including flowers, fruits, berries, roots, barks, woods, seeds, leaves and peels. In their purest form, some essential oils are considered to be 40-60 times more potent than herbs and can be used aromatically, topically and in several cases internally."
