HIV Day Center
The HIV Day Center is a community center for low income people living with HIV/AIDS. The Day Center provides hot breakfasts and lunches five days a week. Staff are available for counseling, information and referral, and help with problem solving. Day Center clients have access to phones, a mail drop, computers with internet access, WiFi, washer and dryer, clothing, a shower and hygiene supplies. The Day Center also provides therapeutic and recreational activities. Massage, haircuts, foot care and acupuncture are provided by volunteer practitioners.
The Day Center drop-in hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Breakfast is served each day between 9 to 10:30 a.m. Lunch is served at 1 p.m. (a sack lunch is provided on Wednesdays at closing).
Clients can self-refer to the Day Center; the only requirements are that they are HIV positive and have incomes below 300 percent of the federal poverty level. There are no fees for any Day Center service.
The HIV Day Center opened in Portland in May 1990 as the first free-standing, community-based program of its kind in the United States. It was created in direct response to needs outlined by a coalition of healthcare providers in 1987.

Daily Bread Express
Established in 1992, the Daily Bread Express (DBX) provides meal delivery for low-income, home-bound individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Seven nutritious meals are delivered weekly throughout the six-county Portland metro area. The only requirements to participate on the program are that meal recipients are HIV positive, have incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and have a specified medical need for home delivery of meals. Clients need to be referred by a case manager. There is no fee for this service.
