"Pelvic Floor Therapy refers to external and/or internal manual therapy of the pelvis to treat pelvic pain, PCOS, endometriosis, urinary/fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. It also relieves low back, hip, and pelvic pain, alleviates pain with intercourse, optimizes pelvic floor muscle balance and strength. On a somatic level, Pelvic Floor Therapy supports feeling autonomous and safe by integrating experiences of living in a human body. This can mean sexual experience, sexual trauma, boundary violation, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, abortion, birth, death, postpartum.
Is Pelvic Floor Therapy appropriate for everyone?
Just as all humans can benefit from drinking water, taking deep breaths, and receiving therapeutic touch, all humans have pelvises! and thus can benefit from Pelvic Floor Therapy. It might look different, depending on the physical, intergenerational, and emotional health and trauma of each individual, but this therapy can support everyone to experience safety and ease in their body.
I think this might be what I need, and I"m still nervous!
Of course! This kind of therapy is unfortunately rare and recent in the contemporary West. We go slow. We only offer what the body is ready for. We celebrate and respect when the body says "no" and "not yet". This is all part of the work. You are safe here."
