"Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidenced-based, gold-standard treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. It focuses on the beliefs you have about yourself, other people and the world, and how trauma has impacted you in regards to safety, trust, power/control, esteem and intimacy.
Typically the program is completed within 12 sessions, conducted weekly. You will be asked to complete practice assignments in between sessions and this is an important part of the treatment.
Symptoms of PTSD can include having distressing or unwanted memories of the trauma, feeling as though you are re-living the event, nightmares or difficulty sleeping, avoiding things that remind you of the trauma, feelings of guilt or self-blame, irritability and hyper vigilance."
