"Reiki is a form of healing energy that exists throughout the universe. In recent times it has been classified as a biofield therapy; a biofield is the field of energy that surrounds and interpenetrates the human body, or any biological body. Therapies such as Reiki are noninvasive modalities in which the practitioner works with the patient"s own biofield to stimulate healing responses[1]. Reiki therapy treats the whole person body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain. In time, these energy blockages can cause illness or discomfort. Reiki aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way acupuncture or acupressure does. Increasing flow of energy can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.

Reiki has traditionally been defined as a universal life force energy that is spiritually guided. Treatment with Reiki can help bring us back into harmony with the universal life energy that permeates all that exists.

How it Works
Reiki is a relaxing treatment where natural healing vibrations are transmitted through the hands of the practitioner (acting as a conduit) to the body of the recipient, helping to restore balance to body, mind and spirit.

Treatments are usually given via a hands-on healing technique where the practitioner gently lays their hands on the participant"s body. There is also a non-touch practice where the practitioner"s hands hover over the body. In addition, the practitioner can perform distance Reiki for patients who are unable to meet with a practitioner.

The experience of receiving Reiki is subjective, changeable, and typically subtle, although sometimes the experience can be dramatic. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation. Reiki is cumulative and even people who don"t notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences as they continue."
